Text adopted yesterday, with 11 votes in favor and 4 abstentions, demands, among other things, that the Houthis release the ship Galaxy Leader and its crew, who have been held hostage since November 19.
The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday demanded an “immediate” halt to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea, while calling on all member states to uphold an arms embargo against the Yemeni rebels.
The text, drawn up by the US and Japan, was adopted with 11 votes in favor and 4 abstentions. He demands that the Houthis “put an immediate end” to the attacks “that impede international trade and undermine the rights and freedom of navigation” as well as “peace and security in the region”.
The text implicitly but clearly approves the action of the international coalition created by Washington for the protection of commercial ships in the maritime area of strategic importance. It also demands that the Houthis release the Galaxy Leader, a car carrier operated by a Japanese company and linked to an Israeli businessman, and its 25-member crew, which have been in the hands of Yemeni rebels since November 19.
