The lawsuit accuses the prestigious 388-year-old university of violating a federal civil rights law that prohibits bias.
Harvard University has been sued by Jewish students, who accuse it of allowing it to become a “bastion” of rampant anti-Semitism.
In the lawsuit filed last night, the students accuse Harvard of “selectively” enforcing its anti-discrimination policies to avoid protecting Jewish students from harassment, ignoring their pleas for protection and hiring professors who support violence against Jews and spread anti-Semitic propaganda.
“Based on its track record, it is inconceivable that Harvard would allow any other group than the Jews to be targeted for similar abuse or allow, without response, students and faculty to call for the extermination of any country other than Israel.“, the document states.
The lawsuit accuses the prestigious 388-year-old university of violating a federal civil rights law that prohibits bias.
The lawsuit was filed eight days after Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned, under fire for her handling of anti-Semitism following the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel.
Harvard has not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment.
Among the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Harvard is Alexander Kestenbaum, a master’s candidate at Harvard Divinity School.
In addition, five other unnamed students in the School of Law and School of Public Health and the non-profit organization Students Against Antisemitism.
The students say there is no excuse for Harvard to sit idly by and allow anti-Jewish attacks to escalate, under the purported need to allow people to express themselves freely.
They further argue that Harvard’s bias extends to enrollment, citing among other things a 60% drop in admissions of Jewish students.
More than 30 student organizations at Harvard joined a petition a day after the October 7 Hamas attack, blaming Israel. According to the lawsuit, it took a day for the university to respond, choosing to make platitudes but not condemn the list or support Jewish students.
“Harvard, America’s top university, has become a bastion of rampant anti-Jewish hatred and harassment“, the lawsuit states.
The suit, filed in federal court in Boston, seeks the expulsion or expulsion of students who engage in anti-Semitic acts and the return of donations used to hire anti-Semitic professors or promote an anti-Semitic program.
