France today refuted Russia’s claims of existence French mercenaries in Ukrainea day after Moscow announced that Russian forces had killed French mercenaries in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
“France assists Ukraine with supplies of military equipment and military training, in full compliance with international law, in order to assist Ukraine in its fight to defend its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity“, said the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“France has no mercenaries, neither in Ukraine nor anywhere else, unlike some others“, he added.
Yesterday, Moscow announced that Russian forces carried out a precision strike on Tuesday targeting a building housing “foreign fighters” in Kharkiv.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the fighters were mainly French mercenaries and the building was destroyed, killing more than 60 people.
Reuters could not independently verify this Moscow report.
Local officials in Kharkiv said yesterday that two Russian rockets hit a neighborhood in the city center, injuring 17 people, two of them seriously, and causing heavy damage to homes.
