Six hundred and seventy-two people were forced to evacuate an area in the northern part of Brussels after an explosion at a house, possibly caused by a gas leak.

As the rtl network reports, explosion occurred this morning at approximately 8:25 am. local time, at a house in Nether-over-Haebleck. Immediately a fire broke out, reports the Brussels fire department. Cause of the fire it was probably a leak in a low pressure gas line.

The leak was likely due to pavement workaccording to Sibelga distribution network manager.

“The explosion caused at least a partial collapse of the facade of the house”, the fire department spokesman said. A total of 672 people were evacuated in the area, including two neighboring schools. The occupant of the house was taken to the hospital, while two injured people received first aid on the spot.

The firemen and the police have created a security zone.

The cause of the leak remains to be further investigatedbut according to the distribution network manager it appears that workers hit a low pressure pipe during pavement work.
