Authorities had found the bodies of people with bullet wounds in two homes a short distance apart
The gunman who allegedly killed eight people in the city of Juliet, Illinois, is dead after a manhunt launched against him by the police.
According to the police Romeo Nance, 23, reportedly fatally shot himself after the chase near Natalia, Texas. The suspect allegedly killed eight people at different locations. .
Seven of the victims were found in two nearby homes by police on Monday. The eighth was found earlier on Sunday.
After the bodies were discovered, authorities launched a manhunt for the suspect, warning that he “should be considered armed and dangerous.”
In a statement, the Juliet Police Department said Nance was located near Natalia at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time Monday and that at that point “Nance is believed to have taken his own life with a handgun after an exchange of gunfire with officers.”
Earlier, Juliet Police Chief Bill Evans told a news conference that police were notified at 12:04 a.m. Monday that multiple people had been found dead by gunshots.
After arriving at the scene on West Acres Road, officers discovered seven bodies. Five were found in one home and two in another, Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Jungles said. It is believed that they were all members of the same family.
A motive for the attack was not immediately clear, but the suspect is believed to have known the victims.
Separately, authorities said they had been alerted to two more shootings a day earlier at separate locations in Juliet.
