Reports by Ukrainian officials of Russian strikes
At least two people were killed by massive Russian missile strikes early this morning in Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said.
The governors of Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions each announced via the Telegram application that one person had died in their respective regions.
Ukrainian officials also said today that several people were injured and residential buildings and a gas pipeline were damaged in Kiev and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, by a missile attack launched by Moscow.
Seven people were injured in the Solomyanskii and Sviatoshinskii districts of Kyiv, the capital’s mayor Vitali Klitschko said via the Telegram platform, while adding that a fire broke out in apartments after the attack.
Air defense systems are repelling the Russian missile attack, the head of the Kyiv military command Serhii Popko and his counterpart in charge of the surrounding area said via Telegram.
A non-residential building in the capital’s Pechersk district was damaged, an official said. Serhiy Popko said cars caught fire in Sviatosin, west of the center of the capital.
“Strong explosions, our house … was shaking,” lawmaker Irina Gerashenko wrote on her Telegram account, while eyewitnesses told Reuters they heard waves of explosions in and around Kiev.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov also wrote on Telegram that Russia targeted his city as well.
“They are hitting Kharkiv again – several explosions have already occurred,” he said.
A residential building was hit in Kharkiv, said regional governor Oleh Sinekhubov. “There are people under the debris,” he wrote on Telegream.
The city’s police said a gas pipeline caught fire as a result of the attack and children were among the injured.
Reuters notes that it was unable to confirm the information from an independent source. There is no comment from Russia so far.
