In the Directing category, Justine Treet became the eighth filmmaker to be nominated and the only woman this year.
Female directors hit a major milestone in the nominations at this year’s Oscars.
For the first time in the 96-year history of the Academy Awards, three of the 10 films nominated in the “Best Picture” category are by women.
Specifically, it is the film “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet, “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig and the film “Past Lives” by Celine Song.
The remaining nominees are “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Oppehneimer,” “The Holdovers,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest.”
In the Directing category, Justine Treet became the eighth filmmaker to be nominated and the only woman this year.
In addition, Emma Stone became the second woman in Oscar history to star in a film (Poor Things) that received two nominations, Best Actress and Best Picture in the same year. The first was Frances McDormand with the film “Nomadland” who won both statuettes.
Gerwig is also the first director whose first three films, “Barbie,” “Little Women” and “Ladybird,” were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The announcement of the nominations for the top film festival was undertaken by the actress Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. According to Deadline, the award ceremony will take place on March 10, in Los Angeles, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
