by

United States prosecutors are demanding the harshest punishment yet for participants in the January 6 deadly attack on the Capitol, and are asking judges to use as an example a man filmed punching a police officer and another who stormed the Senate floor wearing a headdress. with horns.

At a hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors will ask a judge to impose a 44-month prison sentence on Scott Fairlamb, a former mixed martial arts fighter from New Jersey who pleaded guilty in August to assaulting a police officer. .

He was filmed on the body cameras of police officers yelling at agents and then pushing one and punching another in the face.

Separately, prosecutors recommended in documents a four-year and three-month sentence for Jacob Chansley, who participated in the Jan. 6 attacks and became known as “the shaman of the QAnon.”

Lamberth, who also handles the Chansley case, will pass his sentence on November 17th.

In a legal document, Fairlamb’s defense attorney asked the judge to “take into account the approximately 11 months the accused has spent in custody” and not to increase his prison time.

Nearly 700 people have been accused of participating in the episodes of violence on Capitol Hill, when former President Donald Trump’s supporters confronted police, smashed windows and roamed the building in an attempt to reverse their electoral defeat.
