A satellite weighing 32 kg and two nanosatellites under 10 kg each were launched into a minimum orbit of 450 km
The Iran launched today at the same time three satellites for the first time using the Simorgh satellite launch vehicle, developed by the Ministry of Defense, state media reported.
A satellite weighing 32 kg and two nanosatellites under 10 kg each were sent into a minimum orbit of 450 km, with the two smaller intended for testing, among other things, geo-location technology. The largest satellite, named “Mahda” and built by the Iranian Space Agency, aims to test the accuracy of the Simorgh rocket in carrying multiple payloads into space.
Earlier this month, Iran raised in orbit the satellite Sorayya with a missile made by the Revolutionary Guards, raising concerns among European powers that the space launch vehicle technology could be used to develop long-range ballistic missile systems.
Iran yesterday rejected European countries’ condemnation of the launch of the Sorayya satellite, saying technological development in aerospace for peaceful purposes is the country’s legitimate right.
