Contacts in Ankara are being made today and tomorrow by the acting Deputy Secretary of State of the USA, Victoria Nuland, within the framework of the Strategic Mechanism of the two countries.

The American official met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan earlier today.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz said in a post on Platform X that a meeting was held with Victoria Nuland, with whom they exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and Africa.

The visit is taking place at the invitation of Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Aksapar, within the framework of the Turkey-US Strategic Mechanism, established in 2021.

In the consultations which will take place during the meeting of the Strategic Mechanism, on the agenda are bilateral relations, developments in Gaza, Syria and Libya and other regional and international issues.

Ms. Nuland’s visit to Turkey comes in the wake of the signing of Sweden’s NATO accession protocol by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the sending of a formal request by the US government to Congress for the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.
