Father killed his 1-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter from his first marriage so he could marry his new partner
A father and his news fellowwho organized the murder of the man’s two small children throwing them from one window of the 15th floor, were executed today in China, a court announced.
The drama, which caused outrage in the country, happened in November 2020 in an apartment building in the large city of Chongqing (southwest).
THE fatherZhang Bo explained that he killed his 1-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter from his first marriage to please his new partner, Ye Chengchen, so that he could get marriedas her family did not accept her marrying a man who already had children.
“On the morning of January 31, 2024, Chongqing Intermediate People’s Court No. 5 followed the order issued by the Supreme People’s Court and executed Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen,” the court said in a statement today.
The two of them “decided to disguise the crime as accidental falls”, the court underlined, denouncing an “inhumane” mode of operation that “defies the limits of morality”.
The tragic story
When she started her relationship with Zhang Bo, his new partner Ye Chengchen did not know that he was still married and had children. But when he found out, he decided to continue the relationship.
With the divorce finally granted in February 2020, the father agreed to pay alimony to his ex-wife and raise his one-year-old son until he was 6 years old.
His new partner, however, believed that the very existence of these children was a “burden on their future life together” and an “obstacle” to her marriage to Zhang Bo, the court heard today.
The young woman thus “exerted constant pressure” on her partner to kill them, according to the same source.
Crimes punishable by death in China
China reduced the number of crimes punishable by death from 55 to 46 in 2015.
These still include premeditated murder, rape and drug trafficking, but now exclude pimping or arms smuggling.
Convicts are usually put to death by lethal injection. However, the number of people executed each year in the country remains a secret.
