The 27 EU member states today reached an agreement to provide an additional €50 billion in aid to Ukrainesaid the president of the European Council Charles Michel on Platform X.

“We have an agreement. All 27 leaders agreed on an additional €50 billion support package for Ukraine within the EU budget. This locks in stable, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine. The EU takes the lead and the responsibility to support Ukraine. We know what’s at stake” wrote the president of the European Council.

It was preceded by a multilateral meeting of EU country leaders with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbánwhich he convened before the start of the extraordinary Summit Charles Michel.

At the meeting that took place aimed at overturning Viktor Orban’s objections to the economic aid package for Ukraineamounting to 50 billion euros in the four years 2024-2027, were attended by the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the French President Emmanuel Macronthe Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council.

What does the conclusion text say?

“Based on the Commission’s annual report on the implementation of the Ukraine Facility, the European Council will hold an annual debate on the implementation of the Facility with a view to providing guidance. If necessary, in two years the European Council will invite the Commission to submit a proposal for a review in the context of the new Multiannual Financial Framework” reads the text of the conclusions reached by the “27” leaders of the member states of the European Union.

After the resistances of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, were overcome, Ukraine will receive €50 billion in multiannual financial framework aid.
