Tra: Russia could invade Ukraine at any time

The Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom Liz Trace, again called on British nationals to leave immediately Ukraineas he said, “we are fully aware that there could be a Russian invasion almost immediately.”

Ms Tras was speaking after a meeting of the COBRA emergency committee chaired by her, on providing consular support to the British on Ukrainian soil.

He noted that the latest information indicates that an invasion is possible “at any time” and called it Kremlin to de-escalate the situation.

He added that the British government, in parallel with the preparations for a possible Russian invasion, was trying to use the diplomatic route in order to de-escalate the tension.

She confirmed that she and Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit European capitals this week.

Referring to her recent visit to Moscow, Ms. Tras said she conveyed a “clear” message that there would be a “serious price” in the event of an invasion. As he commented, “the Russians did not like what I had to say to them, but I said it anyway.”

As announced, Boris Johnson will chair Tuesday a new enlarged meeting of the COBRA commission that will examine the overall British response.

Mr Johnson was due to spend the night in NW England after a trip to promote domestic politics, but is finally returning to Downing Street tonight due to concerns about developments in Ukraine. Upon his return he will be informed of the latest military information collected by the British services.

In a post on Twitter late in the afternoon, the British Prime Minister repeated his morning statement: “We are on the edge of a cliff, but there is still time for President Putin to step back. “We urge everyone to engage in dialogue and for the Russian government to avoid anything that would be a catastrophic mistake for Russia.”
