“Israel’s military escalation in Rafah is aimed at pushing Palestinians from their land,” said the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas as reported by Reuters, after the order given by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu for the evacuation of Rafah in view of an imminent invasion by the Israeli army.

The Palestinian president’s office has accused Israel and the US of holding them responsible for any fallout from the expected invasion. He also mentioned that the expected military operation will threaten “peace and security in the region”.

“The [Ισραήλ] taking this step threatens security and peace in the region and the world. It crosses all red lines,” Abbas’ office said.

Abbas also called on the UN Security Council to take urgent action.

“It is now time for everyone to take responsibility for addressing the creation of another Nakba, which will push the entire region into endless wars,” the statement said.

By the term “Nakba,” Abbas was referring to the mass displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
