A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), Dries van Acht served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1977 to 1982. He was a staunch supporter of the creation of an independent Palestinian state and had criticized the Dutch government for its biased stance on the Middle East.
