Demonstrators in Australia, who oppose the ban on thong bikinis, went on a…revealing protest.

Scores of women donned thong bikinis at Kurrawa Beach at 6am (local time) on Friday during the ‘Free The Peach’ protest to defend their right to wear whatever they want on the beach.

Their reaction came after former Gold Coast Volunteer of the Year winner Ian Grace said thong-wearing women and girls were “cheap”.

Grace initially sent a letter of concern to Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate earlier this month saying women wearing triangle bikinis on the beach were distracting him.

In particular, describing his problem, Grace states that “one young lady in particular was walking down the footpath on the high street and she was wearing the tiniest bikini. He looked almost defiantly at people as they approached or almost dared to say something. Something is wrong here.”

“While any man would enjoy the ‘view’, I think women put themselves down too much, present themselves as sex objects, and then resent it when men see them that way,” he continues.

Rebecca Pask, owner of swimwear company Barr Body Swim, told Australia’s Today morning show: “I think the conversation is much broader.

“Our boys and young girls in society, we need to teach them what is appropriate and what is not, but that starts at home.

“A bikini ban would never be the answer. Never. Not on the Gold Coast.”
