London welcomes Jordan’s efforts to send humanitarian aid to Gaza
The Prime Minister of Britain Rishi Sunak welcomed Jordan’s efforts to airdrop humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, his office said after meeting King Abdullah in Downing Street earlier Thursday.
A video released by Jordanian public television shows the monarch, in a plane, taking part in the airlift of supplies for field hospitals in the Palestinian enclave.
“The Prime Minister welcomed Jordan’s innovative efforts to deliver aid to Gaza by land and air and highlighted the UK’s work to alleviate the humanitarian crisis,” a Downing Street spokesman said.
Earlier, Sunak spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and asked for the full opening of his border crossing Kerem Shalom so that international humanitarian aid can pass through there. He also reiterated that the immediate priority should be to negotiate a humanitarian ceasefire to safely release the hostages and facilitate the delivery of aid to civilians.
“The Prime Minister stated that the United Kingdom is deeply concerned about the loss of life in Gaza and about the potentially devastating effects of a military (Israeli) invasion of Rafah”, an area in the southern Gaza Strip where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have gathered.
