China’s foreign minister Wang Yi assured his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba that China “does not sell lethal weapons” to Russia, Beijing said today.
Despite the conflict, the China remains its most important trade and diplomatic partner of Russiawith the two countries sharing a common ambition to counterbalance Western influence on the international stage.
Apart from financial support, China is facing suspicions, especially from the US, that it supplies the Russian military, which is fighting in Ukraine, equipment or weapons. Beijing categorically rejects the accusations.
China “continues to press for peace negotiations and does not add fuel to the fire,” Wang Yi told the Dmytro Kulebaduring a meeting yesterday at Munich (Germany), on the sidelines of the Security Conference.
Beijing “does not take advantage (of the situation) to gain benefits and does not sell lethal weapons to the war zones or those involved in the conflict,” he stressed, according to a press release published today by Chinese diplomacy.
