Five civilians were killed in a Russian strike in the Sumy region, in the northeastern part of Ukraine bordering Russia, as the Northern Command of the Ukrainian army announced today Tuesday.
“According to the first information, five civilians were killed” in the village of Nova Sloboda, the Ukrainian military reported on Telegram, citing artillery fire and a drone attack on the small community, which is about 10 kilometers from the Russian border.
Earlier, municipal authorities reported Russian strikes in Nova Slobod overnight.
“A drone with explosives hit a house where five civilians were. As a result the house was destroyed and a fire started,” the city council said on Facebook. “The debris is being removed and search operations are continuing,” he added.
Early today, regional authorities in Sumi spoke of an “air and artillery attack” against the community, saying two people had been found without signs of life. They also released a photo of a house that had been destroyed by fire.
