A majority of US voters believe that Democratic President Joe Biden is not mentally fit to run and complete a second term, but the same is true of his Republican rival and predecessor Donald Trump, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. yesterday wednesday
Sixty-four percent of the sample thought Mr. Biden, 81, was unfit for a second term because of his mental condition — a rather bad omen for the occupant of the White House, whose age was already his biggest handicap.
51%, however, think the same about Mr. Trump, 77, according to a New York Daily News report relayed by the German Agency.
President Biden—whose intellectual clarity has been in the news lately, especially after the release of special counsel Robert Hurr’s report on the handling of classified documents, describing him as a “nice old gentleman with good intentions but a bad memory”— he rejects criticism of this nature, stating that his memory is fine. There is no indication that he intends to withdraw from the race.
Mr Trump, whose mental health has also been commented on, is widely expected to secure the Republican nomination and be their presidential candidate in the November 5 election. In most polls so far, she is reported to be ahead in voting intentions over Mr. Biden.
The Quinnipiac University poll, however, has Joe Biden leading by 4 points in a theoretical runoff with Mr. Trump.
Another poll, by the YouGov institute for The Economist magazine, instead has Mr Trump ahead by one percentage point.
However, with the election some 250 days away, no predictions can be made yet.
