The High Court in London heard an appeal by Prince Harry who challenged the decision not to receive police protection while in the UK
Prince Harry has lost his High Court appeal against the government over his security during his days in the UK.
More specifically, the Duke of Sussex was trying to overturn the decision in order not to downgrade his security since he was no longer a “working king”.
His lawyers argued that it was an unfair decision. However, a representative of the Ministry of the Interior stated that his security is decided on a case-by-case basis.
In December, when the challenge was made, Home Office lawyers told the High Court that Prince Harry could have funded police security, but these would be “tailored arrangements, tailored to him”.
As the BBC notes, this decision will have an impact on the Duke’s future visits to the UK, as he argued that with the lower level of security it would be difficult for him to visit Britain with his family.
In the ruling, High Court judge Sir Peter Lane dismissed the Duke’s case, finding that there was no illegality in the decision to downgrade Prince Harry’s security, while also finding that the decision was not unreasonable, nor tainted by procedural unfairness .
