British Foreign Secretary Liz Tras will visit Ukraine and Poland later this week ahead of the G7 summit in Germany on Saturday to reiterate her support for the Ukrainian government in the midst of Western warnings of imminent Russian invasion.
Ms Tras will meet with Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba and Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rao to express UK “support” for “Ukrainian national sovereignty” and to reiterate London’s warnings to Moscow over Moscow. “There would be a possible Russian attack on Kiev,” a press release issued by its services said today.
“I call on Russia to take the path of diplomacy. We are ready to discuss. “But we are very clear – if it decides to continue on the path of aggression, there will be huge and costly consequences for Russia, which will gain ‘pariah status’,” according to excerpts from a speech by Mrs Tras in Kiev.
The British Foreign Secretary will participate on Saturday in both the Munich Security Conference and the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the Group of Seven most industrialized countries in the world.
Russia’s announcement of a troop withdrawal from Ukraine’s border area has been met with skepticism from Westerners, who say Moscow is keeping its troops in the area.
