Starving people, aid is finally arriving, and israeli soldiers feel ‘threatened’: more than a hundred people were killed today thursday, according to hamas, as food distribution turned into a nightmare in gaza, with people being trampled and live bullets hitting the crowd.

Hamas’ health ministry revised the tally on Thursday night, speaking out for 112 dead and 760 injured in the “slaughter”, as he described it, in the Gaza Strip. Today, the dead since the start of the war exceeded 30,000.

In the early hours, thousands of people flocked to Al Rashid Street, near the “Nablus Roundabout,” in western Gaza, the enclave’s largest city, where Palestinians said they ate livestock or killed donkeys and horses to survive.

According to testimonies and with the Gaza health services, Israeli soldiers who were stationed a short distance away to protect the convoy, they opened fire on the crowd heading towards the 30 or so trucks.

“As the convoy (which had departed from the south of Gaza) entered the north, thousands of people rushed the trucks, which caused a stampede in which dozens of Gazans were injured and killed, some of them being swept away by the trucks,” an Israeli spokesman claimed. army.

A part of the convoy then continued on its way but “dozens” of civilians were found close to Israeli forces who fired “warning shots” and then “opened fire”, the same official continued.

Conflicting versions

“It was limited fire (…) it was not a mass incident, from our point of view,” he added. The army spoke of “dozens of dead and wounded” who were trampled by the crowd which “surrounded the trucks and looted” their cargo. However, he did not give an account of the victims from the shootings.

When asked by reporters, the same military spokesman did not specify from which organization the humanitarian aid carried by the trucks came. The head of the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini told Platform X that “no UN agency was involved in this distribution”.

From Washington, US President Joe Biden said that his government “verifies” the “two conflicting versions of what happened.”

“I went to the roundabout in Nablus at dawn to get flour because there is nothing in my house and the children are dying of hunger. Around 4 o’clock, the trucks started approaching and (…) the army fired artillery shells and opened fire,” Ali Awad Askir, 54, who was wounded by a bullet in the left leg, told AFP.

“Chaos prevailed”

“We were on Al Rashid Street and suddenly the tanks attacked us. There were parcels full of help. The people, having no food and flour, quickly moved forward to collect them. There was chaos, there were crowds of people but the occupying forces kept shooting at us, there were so many witnesses and victims,” said an eyewitness who did not want to reveal his identity.

Bodies were carried in a cart pulled by a donkey along Gaza’s coastal road, according to an AFP correspondent. In a joint statement, the Palestinian organizations denounced this “heinous crime against defenseless citizens”.
