The biggest unions have called a general strike for Friday, March 8, International Women’s Day. The strike mobilization will last twenty-four hours and will concern the public as well as the private sector. Among others, workers in the fields of education, health, research and highways are expected to “cross their arms”. As far as public transport is concerned, the mobilizations will be more limited, following a relevant decision by the Italian authority which regulates the right to strike.

The Italian unions underline that with the general strike of March 8 they want to send a clear message against violence against women, against discrimination in the workplace, as well as in favor of public health and the prevalence of peace in every war zone. Always on Friday, finally, trade unions and organizations for women’s rights will organize marches in the largest Italian cities, with which they will say “no”, above all, “to all forms of patriarchal violence in our society”.
