In the wake of Russian wiretapping of discussions from within the German armed forces about theoretical scenarios that would arise in case of sending long-range missiles to Ukrainetwo new polls agree that the vast majority of Germans oppose such a thing.

According to the Deutschlandtrend poll on behalf of the first program of public television (ARD), 61% of respondents are negative about sending long-range missiles of the Taurus type to Ukraine, a position that Chancellor Olaf Solz unequivocally advocates.

However, they are also of particular interest other poll findings. 70% fear that Germany will henceforth become an increasingly frequent target of Russian eavesdroppingwhile the 67% clearly believe that Germany is not prepared against Russian espionage.

64% also estimate that Russia could attack other European countries in the futurewhile 62% believe that Germany could also be directly involved in a war with Russia.

Mass dissatisfaction with Solz’s performance

At the same time, and in the second major Politbarometer poll on behalf of the ZDF network, 65% also believe that Germany should not go ahead with sending long-range missiles to Ukrainewhile 82% describe as “very dangerous” or “dangerous” the Russian attempt to influence German public opinion by spreading fake news or by revealing secret activities of the secret services.

Meanwhile, in terms of the German government’s performance, 62% negatively evaluate the general performance of Chancellor Olaf Solz at all levels and a 46% in particular regarding him war in Ukraine.

Regarding voting intention the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) remains first with a percentage of 30%the Alternative for Germany (AfD) follows with a slight drop in its percentages to 18%, while the Social Democrats and Greens both receive 15%.

Liberals with 4% are below the electoral threshold of 5%, which is required for a party to enter the German parliament, as is the Left with 3%. The 5% limit seems to catch the new controversial party of Sarah Wagenknecht, after her departure from the Left, along with several executives of the left faction.
