Pope Francis, in an interview on Swiss television, referred to the developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war. In more detail, the pontiff stated:

“I believe that he is stronger who recognizes the situation, thinks about the people, has the courage to “raise a white flag”, to negotiate. Today a negotiation can take place, with the strongest international powers. The word negotiation is a word of courage.”

Asked about those in Ukraine referring to the possibility of “raising a white flag”, Francis added:

“When you see (….) that things are not going well, you have to have the courage to negotiate” You may feel ashamed,… “but how many more dead will this all end up with?” Negotiation must be done in time, looking for a country to act as a mediator. Today, there are many who want to mediate the war in Ukraine. Turkey has nominated itself, as have other countries. Don’t be shy to negotiate, before the situation gets even worse.”
