The Israeli armed forces tonight struck the outskirts of Baalbek, in the eastern part of Lebanon, for the second time since the start of the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

At least one civilian was killed and several others wounded in four airstrikes, Governor Bashir Hader was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

One of the strikes was aimed at the southern entrance of the city of Baalbek, about two kilometers from the archaeological site. The other three occurred near the town of Taraja, 20 kilometers west of Baalbek, according to sources in the security forces.

“An Israeli jet hit a former Hezbollah building near Dar al-Amal hospital,” a Lebanese official told AFP.

Hostilities between the Israeli army and Hezbollah have been almost daily since October 8, the day after the Israel-Hamas war broke out. They are focused along the border, with the exception of February 26, when for the first time since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel launched an airstrike in an area of eastern Lebanon. Baalbek, in the Bekaa Valley, which borders Syria, is a Hezbollah stronghold.

The clashes have killed at least 312 people in Lebanon, including dozens of Hezbollah members and 53 civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Lebanese security sources. In Israel, the armed forces have announced the deaths of ten soldiers and six civilians.
