The Palestinian Authority announced today the death in the occupied West Bank of a young Jordanian, who was wounded yesterday, Monday, by the fire of the Israeli army who accuses him of being an accomplice of a man who was preparing to commit an attack.

Tawfiq Aid Fawaz Hussein, 25, was hit by Israeli fire at the “Zeita intersection, north of Tulkarem,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The young man “was wounded in the leg and the occupation forces left him bleeding for more than an hour and a half in the ambulance before he succumbed to his injuries,” he added.

When asked by AFP, an Israeli army spokesman said the Jordanian was suspected of being an accomplice of another man, Mohammed Jabbar, who, according to an army statement published last night, was “killed” (on Monday). in the village of Zeita, while on his way to Israel to carry out a suicide attack”.

Jabbar “was armed and had an explosive device ready to detonate,” the military added.

Jordan’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment.

Tawfiq Aid Fawaz Hussein, who was from the Jordanian city of Ruseifah, said he was going to the West Bank to see his family in the Noor-Shams refugee camp, a Palestinian security source, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

The war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, which erupted after the Palestinian Islamist movement’s unprecedented attack on October 7, has led to an escalation of violence in the West Bank.

According to the Palestinian Authority, at least 427 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since October 7.
