The U.S. military announced today that Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile at a U.S. Navy destroyer on Tuesday, but did not hit it, and there were no reports of casualties or damage.

“Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired (…) a short-range ballistic missile” against USS Laboon (DDG 58), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, “in the Red Sea,” the joint command explained via X (the former Twitter) of the US Armed Forces responsible for the Middle East region (CENTCOM, “Central Command”).

The same source also informed that a US-led “coalition” ship destroyed two Houthi drones.

He was possibly referring to the destroyer Caio Duilio (D554), which was earlier announced by the Italian Ministry of Defense as having shot down two Houthi drones “in legitimate defence”.

The Italian military participates in the Shields mission of the European Union.
