The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson responded to a questionnaire sent to him by the London police as part of the investigation into the rallies on Downing Street during the lockdown, his services announced last night.
The head of the British government, whose political survival is at stake in this case, complying with the request of Scotland Yard, sent answers to the investigation questionnaire within the seven-day deadline, he assured Downing Street.
At the heart of the police investigation are at least 10 rallies, which took place on eight dates, in 2020 and 2021.
Eight days ago, London police announced that they would contact “more than 50 people” and take their statements in the case of the “partygate”, which has become a scandal in the United Kingdom.
Scotland Yard has stressed that the questionnaires have “legal status” and should be completed “honestly”.
Eliminating the possibility of resigning despite urgings from the opposition and even members of his own Conservative party, Johnson has been struggling for weeks to save his position. The 57-year-old prime minister has been weakened by successive revelations about these rallies, sometimes in a celebratory manner, amid the pandemic, while ordinary Britons have seen their own social contacts severely curtailed by anti-pandemic measures.
