Under “draconian” measures and escorted by commandos, the suspects for the terrorist attack in the suburbs of Moscow are being taken for questioning. The arrested are blindfolded so they cannot see the route and the building they will be interrogated, while the men of the special units have created a “dead zone” around them, just in case.

Meanwhile, flags are flying at half-mast in Russia today, which is observing a day of national mourning after gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons on dozens of people at a rock concert outside Moscow, in the deadliest attack in Russia in two decades.

President Vladimir Putin declared March 24 a day of national mourning after vowing to track down and punish all those responsible for Friday night’s attack, which killed 137 people, including three children, and injured 180.

More than 100 people remain in hospital, some of them in serious condition. Putin lit a candle in a church at his residence outside Moscow today as a tribute to the dead, his spokesman told the Interfax news agency.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but Putin did not mention in his televised speech yesterday that the jihadist group was linked to the attackers, who he said had tried to flee to Ukraine.

Citizens leave flowers at Crocus City Hall, the 6,200-seat concert hall outside Moscow, where four gunmen burst in shortly before rock band Picnic performed their hit “Afraid of Nothing.”

Russians formed long lines in Moscow to donate blood. Today, blood banks announced that they now have enough supplies for four to six months.

At the same time, the authorities continue to search the ruins of the building where the concert hall was housed, which was destroyed by a huge fire, which was set by the perpetrators.

As the authorities announced, the police found an additional 500 bullets, two Kalashnikov assault rifles and 28 magazines at the scene of the tragedy, specifying that they belonged to “the perpetrators”.

The Investigative Committee also released a video showing masked police officers leading the four alleged perpetrators, who were arrested yesterday, to the headquarters of this body. The men are blindfolded and forced to walk bent over, with their hands tied behind their backs.

Investigators are expected to “soon” ask a court to temporarily hold the suspects.

However, no further information has been given regarding the fate of seven other people, whose arrest was announced yesterday and whose role in the attack has not yet been clarified.

The Commission of Inquiry has not referred to the claim of responsibility by the terrorist organization Islamic State. But she also made no mention of Ukraine during her announcement today.

Moscow will target those behind the deadly shootings wherever they come from, whoever they are, Medvedev says

Russia will target those behind the deadly shootings at a concert hall near Moscow wherever and whoever they are, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said today.

Medvedev, who said on Friday that those who planned the attack should be hunted down and killed, made his latest statement on his official account on the Telegram messaging service.

“We will take revenge for each and everyone (those killed and injured). And those involved, regardless of their country of origin, position, status, are now our main and legitimate target,” he stressed.

Meanings are running high in Russia today, a day of national mourning for the dozens of people killed by gunmen with automatic weapons in an attack on the outskirts of Moscow on Friday.
