A hostage situation is currently underway in the city of Ede in the eastern Netherlands.

The attackers are holding an unknown number of people hostage in a cafe.

The police have proceeded to evacuate 150 homes in the area and have asked citizens not to approach the site.

The newspaper de Telegraaf is talking about a man with guns and explosives.

There is no indication that the hostage-taking is terrorist-motivated, Dutch police said in a statement.

According to the Dutch newspaper the coffee is called Petticoat and attracts mainly young people.

As it had not yet opened for customers this morning, it is believed that the hostages are the cafe workers.
