The Metropolitan Police have confirmed there is a “robust” plan in place to police tonight’s Champions League quarter-final at the Emirates in north London between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
The assurance came after the release of a video attributed to ISIS calling for terrorist attacks on the stadiums of the European club competition in London, Madrid and Paris tonight and tomorrow.
Following UEFA’s announcement that matches would go ahead as normal despite the terror threat, with the necessary security measures in place, Scotland Yard deputy chief Aide Adelekan said:
“The UK terror threat level remains ‘significant’ (severity three out of five), meaning an attack is likely and we are working closely with colleagues from the Counter-Terrorism Policing to plan events here in London , to consider any relevant information that could help us keep spectators safe. We are aware of reports online and in the media of calls to target matches in Europe and here in London. However, I want to reassure the public that we have a robust policing plan in place for tonight’s match and we continue to work closely with the club’s security team to ensure the match goes off peacefully.».
