Britain’s active participation in repelling the Iranian attack on Israel was confirmed by Rishi Sunak.

In a midday statement from Downing Street, the UK prime minister said he could confirm that British fighter jets had “shot down a number of Iranian attack drones”.

As he noted, “thanks to an international coordinated effort, in which the UK participated, almost all the rockets were intercepted, saving lives not only in Israel but also in neighboring countries such as Jordan.”

It is believed that the downing of the Iranian drone by the British aircraft took place over Iraq and Syria. The fighters were reportedly deployed to this area of ​​responsibility to replace US aircraft that rushed to Israel’s defense by abandoning their positions as part of the ongoing Operation Shader. This is an operation to prevent the threat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Mr Sunak reiterated that the fleet of British aircraft in the region had been boosted, with commentators saying the additional aircraft had been sent to the Akrotiri base in Cyprus.

During the night, it was reported that at least one British Voyager-type aircraft had taken off from Akrotiri, with the aim of aerial refueling of fighters. As pointed out by military commentators in London, after Sunak’s statement it is confirmed that Typhoon-type aircraft also took off.
