The fitted yellow jacket with bold shoulders and embellished with gold buttons, which Princess Diana wore on a trip to Hong Kong in 1989, is among six sets on display from today in the former British colony, before they are auctioned in June.

These sets will then be exhibited in Ireland before being auctioned on 27 June.
The Princess of Wales, who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997, imposed fashion “every time she dressed up and went out,” Martin Nolan, director of California-based Julien’s Auctions, told AFP.
The yellow jacket, signed by designer Kathryn Walker, could fetch up to $50,000 at auction, while the price of a blue tulle evening dress could soar to $400,000.
Lady Di wore this stunning gown, created by Murray Arbeid, to the premiere of The Phantom of the Opera in 1986 in London’s West End.
Today, visitors to the exhibition flooded the small space, stopping in front of each garment to read its story.
A 65-year-old trader, Fung, remembers the crowds that flooded the streets of Hong Kong when Princess Diana visited in 1989. “Diana was charismatic, loving and compassionate. That is why many Hong Kong residents respected her,” he said.
Among the clothes on display is a silk and lace evening dress designed by Victor Edelstein, as well as a printed dress by Catherine Walker, worn by Diana in 1991.
The clothes are “tangible assets and talking points” that always excite fans of the princess, Nolan pointed out.
“People remain in love with Diana as if she were still with us today and that’s incredible,” he added.
In 2023, Julien’s Auctions sold a Diana evening dress for a record $1.14 million.
