“We talked to some on the very night of the elections. Talks continued today,” Andrej Plenkovic said
Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic estimated today that his party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), will announce its government partner “very soon” after yesterday’s failed parliamentary election victory.
“We talked to some on the very night of the elections. Talks continued today,” Plenkovic said in a social media post.
Final results are expected next week, as a repeat vote was required in two polling stations due to irregularities. With 99.3% of the vote counted, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) secures 61 of the 151 seats in the new parliament – five fewer than in the 2020 elections. In second place is its president’s Social Democratic Party (SDP). Croatia’s Zoran Milanovic, with 42 seats. They are followed by the far-right Movement for the Homeland (14 seats), the ultra-conservative “Gefira” (11 seats) and the party of left-wing ecologists (10 seats). Three other smaller parties will be represented in the new parliament.
The far-right Movement for the Fatherland has expressed its intention to cooperate under conditions with HDZ. After all, some of its executives come from within the Croatian Democratic Union.
The ultra-conservative “Gefira” and the “Poroume” party of left-wing environmentalists called for a mobilization of forces against HDZ.
