Certification of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline can not proceed after recent actions by Russia, said the German Chancellor Olaf Soltz.
Speaking to reporters in Berlin, the chancellor said his government had made the decision in response to Moscow’s moves in Ukraine.
Solz said the government had decided to “reconsider” the certification of the pipeline, which has not yet been put into operation following the latest developments.
“It will definitely take time, I could say,” the chancellor said.
The pipeline, which transports gas from Russia to Germany, has been completed since last September but has not yet been put into operation, as it has not been certified by the German energy regulator.
For Nord Stream 2, Germany has been harshly criticized by the United States and some European countries, which argue that it is increasing Europe’s energy dependence on Russia.
Zelensky: Terminate Nord Stream 2
Punish Moscow for recognizing Donetsk and Lugansk with “immediate sanctions”, including the final termination of Nord Stream 2, demanded earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In particular, he demanded that work on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany be stopped. The pipeline was completed last September, but has not yet started operating.
The Ukrainian president said that a full-scale conflict with Russia was unlikely, but said he was ready to declare martial law in the country if that happened.
