Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday called pro-Palestinian protests at universities in the United States “horrific” and said the protests “must stop” after he labeled the students as anti-Semitic.

“What is happening on America’s college campuses is appalling,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “Anti-Semitic mobs have taken over top universities,” he added.

“They are calling for the annihilation of Israel. They attack Jewish students. They attack the Hebrew school. It is unconscious. It has to stop”.

He also claimed that “the response of many university presidents has been disgraceful” and said more needs to be done.

“What is important now is for all of us, all of us who … love our values and our culture, to stand up together and say, ‘enough is enough,'” Netanyahu said.

Tensions on college campuses across the US are rising as protests erupted last week after students at Columbia set up tents outside demanding the university divest from arms manufacturers with ties to Israel. The protests led to arraignments and arrests of hundreds of students in New York, Texas and California.
