Turkey is bringing up the Eurofighter issue after yesterday’s meeting between the Turkish president and German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier where Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked Germany to “remove therestrictions on the Turkish defense industry”.

According to what the correspondent of SKAI in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, transmits, sources of the Ministry of Defense of Turkey, they are again asking Germany to lift the German embargo on Eurofighters expressing their belief that “our allies will take decisions in accordance with the spirit of the alliance” on the issue and that they will “remove all implicit or explicit restrictions.”

“We always state that it is not right for allies to impose restrictions or sanctions on each other and that it is against the spirit of the alliance. Our expectation is that our allies will take decisions in accordance with the spirit of the alliance and the common security perspective and will remove all implicit or explicit restrictions. As our President pointed out, we hope that the next period will be one in which joint work with Germany will be discussed, not restrictions. We believe that the Eurofighter issue will be a good start for this and we expect a positive approach from Germany.”
