Japan and Canada announce sanctions against Russia

by

The Japanese government has imposed sanctions on Russia over its actions in Ukraine, including banning the issuance of Russian securities in Asia and freezing any resources of Russian businessmen and politicians under Japanese jurisdiction, Prime Minister Fumio K said today.

Mr Kisinda called on Russia to return to diplomacy, saying it did not see any serious short-term impact on its energy supplies due to the crisis, but said it would consider taking action if the situation worsened.

On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trindade also announced a “series of sanctions” on Russia “until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored.”

Canada will “ban Canadians from any dealings” with the self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Lugansk and Danieck, impose sanctions on Russian lawmakers who voted in favor of the “illegal decision to recognize these territories as independent states” and “Canadians participate in Russian debt markets,” Trinto told a news conference, coordinating his government’s steps with those of the United States and the European Union.

“Additional sanctions” will be imposed on state-backed Russian banks, and Canada will “ban all transactions with them,” the liberal prime minister said, calling it “absolutely unacceptable that Russia has invaded Ukraine again.”
