“Russia’s military failure is already a fact. We estimate 500,000 Russian military casualties, including 150,000 deaths,” said Stéphane Cezournet.
150,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, according to French estimates made known by the French foreign minister in an interview published today in the European edition of the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
“Russia’s military failure is already a fact. We estimate 500,000 Russian military casualties, including 150,000 deaths,” said Stéphane Cezournet. “And all this why? In two words: for nothing,” he added.
The estimate for the number of Russian dead is slightly lower than that revealed by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky last February when he reported that 180,000 Russian soldiers had been killed in the two years of war.
The United Kingdom, for its part, estimated at the end of April that some 450,000 Russians have been killed or injured in Ukraine.
Moscow does not give any information on the number of dead and wounded among its troops.
