Thousands of Israelis took to the streets of several cities on Saturday night to demand that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government do more to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Among the protesters in Tel Aviv were, of course, many relatives of hostages, who were holding photos of their loved ones. Among them is Naama Weinberg, whose cousin Itai Svirsky was abducted in the October 7 attack and, according to Israeli authorities, died during his captivity.

Referring to the video released by Hamas to announce the death of yet another Israeli prisoner, Weinberg said that “soon, even those who have managed to survive for this long, will no longer be alive. They must be saved now!’

Late Saturday night, some protesters briefly blocked a central Tel Aviv highway, but heavy police forces intervened and pushed them back using water cannons. At least three protesters were arrested.

The unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on October 7 sparked the devastating war in the Gaza Strip, which has been raging for nearly seven months.
