About 40% of registered voters said in the eight-day poll, which ended yesterday, that they would vote for Biden if the election were held today, with a similar percentage choosing former President Trump
The American president Joe Biden and his opponent in the November presidential election Donald Trump are fighting chest to chest, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
About 40 percent of registered voters said in the eight-day poll, which ended Tuesday, that they would vote for Biden if the election were held today, with a similar percentage choosing former President Trump.
A previous Reuters/Ipsos poll from April 29-30 had given the Democratic president a one-point lead.
The current poll has a margin of error of two points.
About 20% of registered voters said they have not yet decided who they will vote for in the Nov. 5 election and are leaning toward a third party candidate or not voting at all.
13% of respondents also said they would choose Robert Kennedy Jr. running as an independent, up from 8% who chose him in the previous poll.
Both Biden and Trump are facing problems in the months before the election in which they will be rivals again.
Trump, 77, has spent most of the past few months in a Manhattan court hearing a case in which he is accused of paying a porn star before the 2016 election to buy her silence about their alleged affair.
A previous Reuters/Ipsos poll had shown that a large majority of Americans consider these charges serious.
At the same time, other charges are pending against Trump, including for attempting to overturn the outcome of the 2021 election and also for the way he handled classified documents after he left the White House.
For his part, the 81-year-old Biden is faced with concerns about her his advanced age and lately he has been criticized for his support of Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Pro-Palestinian protests and rallies have taken place at US universities in recent weeks, raising fears among Democrats that some young voters may turn against Biden.
