A package of British humanitarian aid that had departed from Cyprus a few days ago was delivered today for the first time to the new temporary artificial pier on the shores of the Gaza Strip.

According to the Foreign Office, the aid includes almost 100 tons of materials, specifically 8,400 packs of camping equipment. It is the first part of an overall aid package worth £2m of UK aid to be delivered via Cyprus, leveraging Nicosia’s maritime humanitarian corridor initiative.

There had previously been an examination of the humanitarian material at the port of Larnaca. These tents will be delivered inside Gaza as soon as possible.

In the coming weeks, further aid will be delivered by the British via the same route, namely a further 2,000 blankets, 900 tents, 5 forklifts and 9,200 hygiene kits.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke of the “culmination of a Herculean joint international effort”, while Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron noted that it was a “landmark” moment.

The British government makes it clear that it does not see the Cyprus Sea Corridor as a substitute for delivering aid via land routes and continues to call on Israel to honor the commitment of at least 500 aid trucks to Gaza daily via land crossings.
