The United Nations welcomed every effort to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza and expressed gratitude to the US, Cyprus and other countries for keeping the sea corridor open as an additional route for aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip.

“Palestinian civilians in Gaza are in desperate need of food, water and other essentials,” US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said in a social media post, adding that “the United States, Cyprus, the United Nations and others have increased aid, but more must be done, Israel must do more,” notably “to keep vital land crossings open.”

As the deputy spokesman of the UN Farhan Haq reported, the international organization agreed to support the reception and arrangement of the aid mission in Gaza from the floating dock installed by the US military, as long as it respects the neutrality and independence of humanitarian operations.

“Given the enormous needs in Gaza, the floating dock is intended to complement the existing land aid crossings in Gaza, including Rafah, Kerem Shalom and Eretz. It is not intended to replace any transit,” added Mr. Haque.

The operation of the maritime humanitarian aid corridor was also mentioned by the deputy press representative of the White House National Security Council, Adrienne Watson.

“We have delivered the first aid shipments to Gaza via the sea corridor. We are grateful for the support of the UAE, the UK, the EU, Cyprus, the United Nations and other partners. Together, we will continue to support aid deliveries to people in Gaza through all avenues,” Ms Watson said.

The World Food Program (WFP) confirmed that the aid that arrived via the floating dock was transferred to its warehouses in Deir Al Bala, which are accessible. The PEP has notified partners that the cargo is ready for pickup and distribution and assistance is being processed through the regular logistics and distribution process.

At this stage most of the goods that will be delivered through the dock will be food, water, tents, medical and pharmaceutical materials.
