At number 101 Park Avenue in Manhattan the designer Anthony Rubio (which specializes in unique designs for animals in addition to women’s collections) set up for another year his Pet Gala.
As in Met Gala which is organized to financially support the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Instituteso too the Pet Gala has a $300 admission and the proceeds all go to support the venue that hosts the Pet Gala, namely the American Kennel Club Dog Museum. In fact, these unique creations are also exhibited there every June (18 designs are presented in the original fashion show) for the event of each year.
Don’t show a baby on TV or an animal will steal the show, they say, and they’re probably right. Of course, the successful designer Anthony Rubio is far from avoiding posing with his pets/models.
“This is my favorite time of year. I like to challenge myself” he says about the inspiring Pet Gala and continues:
“The designers of The Met Gala have months to create their looks for the celebrities to shine on the red carpet. I have two weeks to recreate them and for dogs too.
When I design for my Fashion Week runways, it’s all about my aesthetic.
For The Pet Gala, I need to figure out how to translate the clothes people wear to our four-legged stars.
People may suffer sometimes for fashion, but dogs don’t. Their comfort and safety is my first priority. It’s a challenge I’m always up for.”
