The officials added that psychologists will be brought to the scene to help those who have been injured by the incident.
How did the accident happen?
The floor of the store collapsed on Thursday afternoon, sending people down to the basement below, where there were also customers and staff.
A firefighter described the scene as “nightmare” to local newspaper Ultima Hora. He added that when his team arrived, the people were crying and screaming as they stood around rubble piled on the floor.
Palma fire chief Ender Garcia told local media that most of those affected by the collapse were foreigners and tourists, according to El Pais.
A local police spokesman told reporters that the balcony may have collapsed because of him overweight placed on him, but stressed that the exact cause is still being investigated.
One man was pulled from the rubble with a broken arm and rescue services are working on the assumption that more people are trapped. Officials asked onlookers to remain silent to allow them to hear the voices of survivors.
The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martinez, reportedly traveled to the site with the vice mayor of tourism.
The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez sent his condolences to the families of the victims.
He said he is closely monitoring all the latest developments and his government is ready to send all the required assistance.
