“The Secretary-General reiterates his call for an immediate ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages to end civilian suffering
The Secretary-General “welcomes the passage of life-saving humanitarian aid” and fuel from Egypt to Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing, according to a press release issued by Antonio Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, on Sunday.
“The Secretary-General reiterates his call for an immediate ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages to end civilian suffering. He is disappointed that the recent orders of the International Court of Justice on Gaza are not being implemented” and “reminds the parties that the decisions of the Court are legally binding,” Mr. Dujarric’s text continues.
With more than 800,000 people displaced from Rafah by hostilities and emergency civilian evacuation orders since May 6, Antonio Guterres “stresses that civilians must be protected and their basic needs met, including access to food, shelter and drinking water”.
With humanitarian operations on the brink of collapse, the Secretary-General further stresses that Israeli authorities “must facilitate the safe receipt and delivery of humanitarian supplies from Egypt entering through Kerem Shalom to those in need.”
Underlines the need to open all crossing points in accordance with Security Council resolution 2720 (2023) and for humanitarian organizations to have full, safe and unimpeded access to reach all civilian population locations throughout Gaza, always in accordance with the announcement of his representative
