Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared in a video outside his office in the capital where he stated that will remain in Kiev.
“We will not lay down our arms, we will defend our country,” Zelensky said.
The “thriller” with the Kiev-Moscow talks
Zhelensky’s spokesman Sergei Nikiforov said late Friday that Kiev’s leadership is in contact with Moscow However, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ukraine had initially rejected the talks and had postponed a decision until today.
Russia had previously accepted Zelensky’s proposal for talks, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov calling it a step in the right direction. Russia considers that the capital of Belarus, Minsk, would be the ideal meeting place.
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Sijiatro has suggested hosting the talks in his home country. Both sides received an invitation and said they were considering the proposal, a spokesman in Budapest said.
