The war in Ukraine “will last” and “we must prepare,” French President Emmanuel Macron warned today, saying the government was preparing “a plan of resilience” to address the economic consequences of the crisis.
“The war is back in Europe (…) If you ask me to share with you a belief this morning, it is that this war will last” and “it will not be without consequences for the rural world,” he told officials of Agriculture inaugurating the International Agricultural Exhibition (Salon international de l’agriculture) in Paris.
Trade restrictions stemming from European Union sanctions on Russia will affect exports of French products such as wine and cereals, Macron said, while a further rise in energy prices will hit livestock.
“We are preparing a sustainability plan,” Macron said, adding that measures would be taken to protect farmers from cost pressures and to compensate for lost incomes.
